"I am looking for a language which exists outside the patriarchal definitions. Of course that is not possible. But who is any longer interested in the possible"- Kathy Acker
Part performance lecture, part karaoke party. Power Ballad deconstructs gendered linguistic histories and rips apart contemporary language to find a new articulation of pleasure, anger and femaleness. From this era of trump and Prime Ministers who don't know what feminist means comes an angry, feminist, live art investigation of language and it's sometimes hidden ideologies.
Created by Julia Croft and directed by Nisha Madhan.
"Power Ballad is a revolution: winking while bringing both form and content to its knees in a way that is deeply, deeply hopeful. " - Pantograph Punch
First performed at the Basement Theatre Auckland as part of the 2017 Auckland Fringe.
Winner of 3 Fringe Awards: Best Contemporary Performance/Live Art, Best Performer of the Fringe and the Touring award to Dunedin Fringe.
